A good design of a sports hall accounts for both the need of communication and safety of the users, including protection from noise. Constructing buildings of big cubic volumes may bring the danger of an uncontrolled, harmful noise. In Z:A 01/2008, we devoted an article to that matter. This time we will focus on solutions implemented in the design phase, which reduce the reverberation noise, and solutions for additional interior deafening and acoustic enhancment in already constructed buildings.

"I want to sell this church its final sound system" – says the better group of sound contractors, and they explain it as follows: …it’s strange that most of the churches are so afraid to buy a sound system, that they do it 3-4 times before they finally get what is good enough for their needs!

Many investors who build a larger hall have no idea that they get an unwanted gift from the constructros – reverberation noise. The problem manifests itself when the ventilation is on, or especially when machines begin t work.
Calm and noise-free
No matter what the name or purpose of a big hall is, they suffer from harmful phenomenon called reverberation. You can say that reverberation is a sound which lasts in the room after its source has finished producing it. Too much of this "resonating" energy creates reverberation noise.
Noise in school gyms
The term "room acoustics" refers to the way sound wave flows in a room. In gyms, the term gains a new, very dangerous meaning! Most of the poeple are convinced that the overwhelming noise in gyms is caused by running students.
